Spear Fishing Clean Water

Spear Fishing Clean Water

Today we shot some fish with two other guys from South Florida. The weather has been awesome and the water has been getting perfect for free diving and spearing fish. We fished West of Key West where we found super clean water and made drifts over coral bottom all day. Our average depth was 30 feet with some deeper sand spots in 40 and high rocks in 15. The final count was 13 Hogfish, 2 Muttons, 1 Mangrove Snapper, 1 Porgy, a few Cero Mackerels, and a few lobster to top it off. It was the perfect way to kick off our spearing season and it can only get better from here on out.

*We saw a ton Black Grouper today on the reef, at least 20. We did not shoot any because the Grouper season is closed till next Friday(April 1st) I can say though, seeing first hand, the population is strong and the fish are there, the fish have benefited from the closure greatly. Can't wait till we can take a few here and there for dinner!
