Mutton Spawn Is On!

Mutton Spawn Is On!

We had a full day trip today so we decided to run down to the West and fish an area with thousands of Muttons Snappers are spawning around the full moon. After marking the fish really good we set up and sent baits to the bottom. At first it wasn't super hot but that was because the fish were taking a little rest. They had been up all nice eating under the full moon and the early morning had them a little tired. We caught two fish in the first 30 minutes on live Pinfish, both were over 15 pounds. Than the Ballyhoo popped up in our chum line. We threw the net and sent some live Hoos to the bottom. By this time the bite was starting to kick off. We boated 8 Muttons all over 15 pounds over the next 30 minutes. With a cooler full of Snapper and fresh Ballyhoo on board we decided to pull anchor and head offshore to look for Dolphin. The Mahi Mahi bite has been sort of strange this year and hasn't really fired up like it has in previous years. We heard some good reports of a few 40 pound fish being caught through our the day though and tried to join in on the fun. The water was dirty and we ran all the way to 800 feet of water where we pick up one schoolie and a 20 pound fish. It was getting late and we made a turn North back to Key West. Today was a really good indicator though off what the Dolphin bite is going to shape up into over the next few weeks
