41 Pound Dolphin and 9 Other Gaffers

41 Pound Dolphin and 9 Other Gaffers

We left the dock today to target Dolphin mainly and maybe switch things up for a Wahoo bite later. Putting the lines out in about 250 feet we started working South. There was no wind, no current, no weedlines and unfortunately no fish...at first. The scattered seaweed had things tough starting off tough with every bait getting covered in them. Luckily with the slick water it was very easy to sight the Dolphin on the surface feeding. After a slow start things didn't slow down for 4 or 5 hours. Everywhere we looked there were fish. We switched to trolling 2 lines instead of 6 and had 4 pitch rods baited and ready to cast to near by Dolphin. Not only is this an exciting way of fishing because you can see them eat, the tackle is much lighter making the fight much longer. We lost 2 nice 10-12 pound Dolphin and boated 10. All but two were caught on pitch rods, and the biggest was 41 pounds.
