Snapper, Permits, and Jacks

Snapper, Permits, and Jacks

Today we ran two trips, a full day from 8 A.M. to 4 P.M. and a five hour trip from 4:30 P.M. to 9:30 P.M. In the morning we were targeting Snapper, Yellowtails and Muttons. The first spot was a deeper wreck in about 190 feet. We worked the sand around the area and were able to put 6 or 7 nice fish in the box. The biggest Mutton was close to 20 pounds and the others averaged in the 10 to 12 pound range. Next we slid on to the reef to Yellowtail. After not producing the way we wanted it to we moved out to a wreck in 85 feet and got a few nice Flag Yellowtail. The biggest tail was about 4 pounds.

On the second trip we went after Permit and Amberjacks. On the first wreck we couldn't see the Permit because the water was so dirty. After making blind drifts we hooked up with three permits and landed two. Also we landed a nice Mutton Snapper. Next we moved South to deeper water and drifted some live crabs over fishy bottom. We had a triple header on and landed all three Permit. The biggest was 43 inches long and about 35 pounds. Last thing on the day was Amberjacking. We only had two really nice baits for this so it was enough for one drift. Even with a crazy current both of our rods got bites. One fish spit the hook but the other one was landed. The fish went about 40 to 45 pounds
