Two More Trips

Two More Trips

The past two trips we have fished the same area and wreck. On day one the current and wind were in the same direction and we anchored to the East of the wreck letting our chum drift to it. We picked up a cooler of Yellowtails in the medium range. The bottom on the East side of the wreck is made up of a lot of coral and hard rock which isn't great for the Muttons, but is perfect for the Grouper. We took what was given to us and pulled out some bigger tackle. The first Black Grouper to the boat was 35 pounds. Over the next 60 minutes we pulled in four more all about 20 pounds. Between them and the Yellowtail we had a full cooler and came in.

The next trip we ran out to the exact same spot with the exact same plan. Only this time the current and wind were moving to the West. Because of this we had to set up West of the wreck and fish the other side. The bottom on this side is made up of entirely sand. Great for the Muttons, not for the Grouper. Once again we took what was given to us and while the two guys fished the bottom for Muttons I caught them Yellowtails on the surface. The caught a few nice Muttons, the biggest being just shy of 15 pounds, an Amberjack, and a Yellowjack. The Yellowtails were big too for the most part, some in the 3 to 4 pound range.
