Deep Water Snapper

Deep Water Snapper

The weather was our biggest obstacle today. We had fresh South winds up to 20-25 knots resulting in a pretty rough sea. Luckily our guys toughed it out and they we were rewarded generously. Our first two spots only yielded sharks, which made our morning even worse since we weren't really targeting them. Although a fun fight sometimes smaller sharks almost become a nuisance. We eventually ended up in 220 feet of water over some structure holding Snapper. The fish we were catching weren't huge but thats ok because they are some of the best eating fish you can catch. We started loading the cooler with Vermillion Snapper, Yellow Eye Snapper, and Black Fin Snapper. Just about time to head in the charter spotted a nice 20 pound Dolphin (fish not flipper) swimming by the boat. With a pitch rod near by my mate fired out a chunk of Bonita which was quickly eaten. After a great fight I gaffed the fish and put her in the cooler where she belonged!
