Tarpon in the Morning, Snapper at Night

Tarpon in the Morning, Snapper at Night

Yesterday we started off in the Harbor trying to catch some big Tarpon. A slow start combined with a few missed bites really made us work for it. Sometimes you know the fish are there, and you know you are doing everything right, so you just have to keep trying until finally it happens. Thats exactly what happened to us. We hooked a 120 pound fish that we fought all over the harbor for over an hour. The fish was hooked in the top of the mouth with a circe hook and safely released boatside.

In the mid afternoon we went back out to catch some snapper. We know this time of year is great for the Mangrove Snapper at night but we started off in some deeper sandy bottom looking for Muttons. In about an hour we put 3 or 4 Muttons in the boat. One off them was a slob, weighing over 15 pounds, the other three were all about 5 or 6 pounds. With the sun going down we ran into a deep reef and switched tackle for the Mangroves. It didn't take long before we hit our limit of nice 4 to 5 pound fish.
