Big Tarpon

Big Tarpon

Today we stayed in the world famous Key West Harbor to fish a super hot Tarpon bite. It didn't take long to get our first fish on after starting a chum slick with cut Pinfish. On the third drift back we connected and 30 minutes later released number one, she weighed in at a little over a 100. We got back to our anchor and the first bait back got crushed. This fish took nearly 2 hours to release and not only was she big but she was stubborn dragging us all over the place. Round 3 came and went with another big fish weighing in at about 85-90 pounds. Round 4 was pretty neat. We had the Tarpon so hot behind the boat we could watch them eat the chunks of bait and get hooked up. We jumped two fish off right next to the boat and than finally got one hooked up for the long haul. We fought the fish and released her about 50 minutes later. Since everyone on the boat had gotten a chance to play around and release a big Tarpon we decided to down size the tackle and use a spinning reel we have on the boat mainly for Permit. It took a few tries and we jumped another fish off with it but we finally connected and were fighting a 115 pound Tarpon on super light tackle. We decided for one more try after releasing that fish and had the same results. 6 released Tarpon. 9 hooked Tarpon. And a few fish that we missed on the drift
