Big Blackfin Tunas

Big Blackfin Tunas

Yesterday we ran a trip trying to get a Sailfish or big Hammerhead for our good friend Buck. We left a little late but still loaded up on live bait. After heading offshore and seeing the conditions we chose to tie up to a wreck we have been fishing a lot of the last week or so. Right off the bat we saw two Sailfish tailing on the surface of the water but couldn't draw a strike with our live Ballyhoo. Not too long after that a huge school of Tuna popped up behind the boat and ate three of our four live surface baits. All the Tunas were over 20 pounds, great size for the Blackfins. We hooked a few big sharks on the bottom but they got the best of our light tackle. With a little more time we could have bumped up the size of the gear and gotten an honest shot at landing one. With a storm approaching we decided to head home early but not before another Tuna hit. After fighting the fish in 40 MPH winds and rain we pulled the line and headed in. A great number for only 2 hours of fishing
